Core facility for Technological Implementation & Robotics (ITR) aims to develop prototypes of interest for research, developed on the basis of ideas and requests from the technical and scientific staff of the Zoological Station, within the activities of the Departments and of the Functional Areas, after a feasibility analysis. The unit deals with design through 3D modeling software, rapid prototyping via FDM 3D printer, realization of electronic boards and programming of microcontrollers to manage sensors and actuators, realization of graphical interfaces for prototype management, mechanical processing (drilling, turning , cutting and milling), power lines and lighting technology, as well as selecting and researching suitable materials for the required purpose. It also deals with the management, maintenance and implementation of oceanographic instrumentation in synergy with the Infrastructure for Marine research Unit (IRM).

Understand what scientific research is and its social and cultural importante in daily life is becoming a need also for the general public.

The Science and Society Committee of the  Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn, established in 2008, continues the tradition of this Institute to communicate science to non-experts.

Through the activities and events organized by the Committee the public is stimulated to participate in a dialog deprived of prejudices on themes about life sciences and environment, held by experts.

The Core facility for Environmental Monitoring & Analysis (MAA) offers support for sampling and laboratory activities aimed at determining the main environmental variables, making the know-how available and guaranteeing the full usability of the instrumentation and/or performing chemical analyzes directly. It carries out service activities for internal users, third-party activities, participation in institutional projects.
