Research Interests
I am particularly interested in the functioning of marine ecosystems and their conservation. My research focuses on the ecology of marine predators, with a special emphasis on the trophic interactions and the biology of various elasmobranch species.
Currently, in my PhD, I am investigating the ecology and resource use of sharks and rays in the bathyal environments of the central Mediterranean. I employ techniques such as gut content analysis, stable isotopes, and innovative non-invasive approaches like fDNA metabarcoding. Another key objective is to assess the impact of fishing on the role these species play in the deep-sea food web, using ecosystem models to develop sustainable management solutions. I am also interested in the conservation and management of fishery resources and deep-sea ecosystems, and I have participated in scientific fishing campaigns (MEDITS), and offshore surveys (ROV).
