Short CV

Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, Biological-Ecological address at University of Messina (2000), with Experimental Thesis entitled “The organic component of seston in Ganzirri Lake: quality and nutritional value as an environmental resource”.
Ph.D. in “Biological and Environmental Sciences: environment and marine resources,” at University of Messina (Phd, 2004), with thesis titled “Anthropogenic impact in three Marine Protected Areas: Island of Ustica (PA) - Cyclops Islands (CT) - Capo Rizzuto (KR).”
Postdoctoral Fellowship in “Biological and Environmental Sciences: environment and marine resources,” with research project on “Organic carbon in brackish environments of the Capo Peloro Oriented Nature Reserve.”
Main fields of research: marine and brackish environments with reference to physical and chemical water quality; study of organic carbon; aquaculture and related activities; cultivation and applications of marine algae; sampling and determinations of marine and inland phytoplankton, with biovolume determination.
Good organizational skills in writing and managing research projects. Good skills in managing collaborative and research teams. Experience in collaborating in conducting research campaigns and in situ sampling. Excellent practice in using major water and sediment sampling equipment (Niskin bottle, Rosette, Van Veen Bucket, Multiparameter Probe). Use of TOC Analyzer, Spectrophotometers, Spectrofluorometers, Analytical Scales, Vibrosetters for particle size analysis, Optical Microscope and Inversion Microscope. Excellent knowledge of major methods of water and sediment analysis.

Tasks

• Safety officer according to the Legislative Decree 81/2008 on the protection of health and safety in the workplace, for the SZN Messina. Prot. no. 4614 of 01/08/2022.
• Functional Area Referent (RAF) of the Sicily Marine Centre, for the AF 'Biology, Ecology and Management of Fisheries Resources', Disposition No. 2 of May 02, 2022
• RAF Manager for the Sicily Marine Centre.
• Contract Execution Director (DEC) for the service of “Disposal of special waste Villa Pace site and supply of storage containers” from 15/03/2024 to 31/12/2024.
• Management and administration of the resources of the Economical Fund of Messina Site and expense reporting according to the dictates of the “Regulations for the Management of the Economical Cash Service” (Delegation of DS Sicily Dr. Teresa Romeo dated 06/23/2021, Prot. 3196 dated 06/24/2021).
• Duties and functions assigned by the Director of the Territorial Site Type A SZN-Sicily (Sicily Marine Centre), supporting scientific research (Executive Orders Sicily Coordinator No. 11/2024 of 13/03/2024):
- Management of storage, pre-treatment and processing activities of water samples destined for the Functional Areas “Biology, Ecology and Management of Fisheries Resources”, “Microbial Ecology and Marine Biotechnology”;
- Development and application of analytical protocols on phytoplanktonic matrices of marine and brackish waters;
- Preparation and reading of phytoplankton samples using light microscopy techniques;
- Coordination and management of preparatory activities for the preparation of purchases of consumables needed to carry out the scientific activities of the Messina Pole;
- Management of purchased materials (consumables) by headquarters staff in the various procedural stages: management of order receipt, loading (DDT), appropriate storage and preservation, updating the register/warehouse;
- Organization and continuous updating of the database of scientific instrumentation in the AF “Biodiversity and Fisheries” including management of loading vouchers/inventory (Polo Messina);
- Development of SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) - as directed by the Territorial Site Director;
- Training of structured and non-structured staff on specific protocols and procedures - upon indication of the Territorial Site Director.
