Curriculum Vitae

Short CV

From October 2019, I am a research technician at the Marine Biotechnology Department, where I’m in charge of the maintenance and optimization of microalgal cultures. These organisms produce high-added value compounds which can be employed in the biotechnological sector, specifically in the pharmaceutic, cosmeceutic and nutraceutic fields.
In January 2018, I earned my PhD at SZN, jointly with the Open University (Milton Keynes, UK) with a research that aimed to maximize the production of carotenoids and other antioxidant molecules in diatoms through light manipulation.
Previously, I worked at the University of Genova, and my research activity was mainly focused on testing the (eco)toxicity of different nanoparticles on the marine bivalve Mytilus galloprovincialis as well as on mammalian cell lines.

  • Mantainance of microalgal cultures (media preparation, cell counts, scale-up)

  • Biochemical assays (antioxidant molecules quantification, antioxidant activity, enzymatic assays)

  • Pigments analysis (HPLC)

  • Instruction on laboratory equipment functioning

  • Training and support for undergraduates, PhD students, and post-docs

  • Technical and scientific support to research activities among several research projects

  • In charge of ultrafreezer management
