Curriculum vitae
Short CV
I obtained a degree in marine biology and a master’s degree in marine ecology from the University of Palermo. I then gained ten years' experience (2014–2023) in aquaculture at several companies of national and EU relevance. My main responsibilities were the maintenance and breeding of phyto- and zooplanktonic cultures.
At the IZS of Sicily, however, I was involved in protocols for identifying sources of Anisakis sp. contamination and infestation in fish species reared in Sicily.
I have also gained valuable teaching experience at secondary school level, having taught CDC A-28 mathematics and science.
From May 2024 to May 2025, I was a research fellow at the Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn, responsible for mesocosm management, popular workshop organisation and social content creation.
Since April 2025, I have been enrolled on the 2nd level University Master course in “Technological Innovation, Design and Sustainable Management of Aquaculture Facilities” at the University of Calabria.
My research interests align with my professional background in aquaculture, the breeding of phytoplanktonic and zooplanktonic cultures, and aquariology.
Tasks
As part of the CRIMAC project at the Calabria Marina Centre in Amendolara, I am responsible for managing controlled environments for research activities. These environments are mesocosms: experimental systems that enable controlled experiments to be conducted in a laboratory setting. They reproduce realistic environmental conditions on a small scale, enabling the manipulation of chemical and physical parameters and the study of how organisms respond to one or more induced environmental stresses over time. My main responsibilities include ensuring the mesocosms are functioning correctly, maintaining tank registers, carrying out scheduled maintenance and monitoring the main water parameters.
I also provide technical and experimental support for research activities. I oversee the instrumentation of the mesocosms, including the monitoring systems and the automatic regulation systems for temperature, pH and salinity, as well as the system for capturing, filtering and sterilising seawater.
Lastly, I am responsible for maintaining phytoplankton cultures and for the communication activities of the CRIMAC project. I assist with planning and implementing popular workshops for school students in the Calabria region, as well as creating social content.
