Research Interests
My research focuses on the study of the behavior of habitat forming species characterizing mesophotic and deep environments. These environments, often little known but of great ecological importance, are home to key organisms for biodiversity maintainance and deep marine ecosystems' functioning.
I have gained experience in the field by participating in several offshore sampling and visual census campaigns, with the aim of characterizing marine habitats and identifying species of conservation and community interest.
During the PhD, innovative techniques of automated in situ image analysis and multiparametric sensors will be integrated to monitor feeding patterns and spawning events of deep sea scleractinians in natural environments and correlate them with oscillations in environmental parameters. This work will contribute to the development of effective local conservation strategies in order to preserve these species in their natural habitats and with their natural habits and ensure the resilience of deep ecosystems in the context of increasing anthropogenic pressures.
