Research Interests
The goal of the research is to design a digital monitoring and sensing platform in the marine environment that provides real-time data for researchers, practitioners, and innovators to gain more precise knowledge about the distribution, abundance, structure genetics, and habits of the underwater community. Indeed, understanding marine functioning and biology and generating data and information are critical to the implementation of sustainability policies that are truly effective in protecting marine ecosystems, and in this context, the project will develop innovative methodological approaches for environmental monitoring through automated systems and artificial intelligence, thus enabling a more comprehensive understanding of current and future marine conditions.
This will also make use of various automated and autonomous underwater systems and devices that enable the collection of images and video sequences, which will then be analyzed by intelligent software capable of recognizing species and offering qualitative and quantitative data on the intercepted organisms and their habitat.
