Research Interests
My research interests span from Animal Ecology to Movement Ecology, from Species Distribution Models to Conservation Biology through spatial planning with ecosystem approach. Throughout my academic career and work experiences on environmental data, I developed a high level of computer literacy, specifically with software such as GIS and R which I use for data analysis and data management. My PhD project is about Mediterranean fish community dynamics, with a specific focus on how Mediterranean fish communities are distributed along environmental and anthropogenic pressure gradients. Moreover, I will investigate processes and dynamics that potentially affect those communities, elucidate ecological stability and resilience to climate change. One of the expected outputs of my PhD project is a web-GIS application that will be develop with the support of the project’s partner ESRI Italia S.p.a. This web application will gather all the informative layers collected during the PhD project: i) the MEDITS data (i.e. sample points data, abundance and biomass indices by species, biological and biometric data by target species); ii) oceanographic layers (such as sea superficial temperature, bottom temperature, salinity, chlorophyll-a, etc.); iii) habitat layers; iv) anthropogenic layers (such as Automatic Identification System (AIS) data, cumulative map of anthropogenic impacts, etc.).
