Research Interests
I deal with ichthyology, in particular in most of my works I have dealt with biological aspects of different species of fish, both Mediterranean and polar, to then extend the results in an ecological context. I focused my attention on the life cycles of species of ecological and commercial interest, in particular by relating distribution and abundance to environmental variables.
The surveys that I carry out make use of both the interaction with users of the sea, such as professional and recreational fishermen, and the use of non-extractive sampling methods, such as direct visual census, or investigation through remote visual methodologies, such as remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) or baited remote underwater video systems (BRUVS).
The project in which I am assigned involves the collection of data on Mediterranean fish communities associated with infralittoral rocky bottoms in areas under protection regime (MPA) and in comparable non-protected areas, in order to obtain data in support of the objective of the "Marine Strategy” Directive concerning the achievement of the “good environmental status” (GES).
