Site

I reef marini profondi sono habitat bentonici fondamentali riconosciuti per la loro azione di assorbimento della CO2 e per la loro alta capacità di attrarre una fauna diversificata. Molteplici pressioni, tra cui quelle legate alLifeDream vector RGB cambiamento climatico, all’incremento dello sforzo di pesca, e per via della presenza di rifiuti, stanno minacciando la salute di questi habitat portando a una perdita delle loro funzioni ecologiche associate. L’obiettivo del progetto LIFE21-NAT-IT-LIFE DREAM è di attuare un approccio innovativo e sostenibile che mitighi gli effetti degli impatti antropici su questi habitat. Il Progetto fornirà informazioni di supporto all’estensione della rete Natura 2000 agli habitat profondi e inoltre promuoverà azioni di protezione, ripristino e conservazione. In aggiunta, il progetto opererà in siti pilota impiegando strutture artificiali con lo scopo di facilitare la crescita di specie che formano i reef e per rimuovere i rifiuti marini.

Il CNR-ISMAR, rivestendo il ruolo di Coordinatore, ha il compito di gestire, raccogliere e organizzare i dati del Progetto LIFE21-NAT-IT-LIFE DREAM in una Infrastruttura di Dati Spaziali (Spatial Data Infrastructure) che consiste in software, hardware, dati territoriali, metadati, servizi web, immagazzinamento dei dati e standardizzazione. La creazione di un geoportale consentirà di condividere dati, risultati e migliorare la conoscenza di base, permettendo un ulteriore sfruttamento dei dati al di fuori del progetto.

Gli obiettivi principali del Progetto sono:

- Migliorare la conoscenza di base degli reef profondi e dei fattori di stress che minacciano questo habitat
- Estendere la rete Natura 2000 integrando la conoscenza acquisita precedentemente e assimilare nuovi dati
- Facilitare e promuovere il ripristino passivo e attivo dei reef profondi
- Prevenire l’ulteriore accumulo dei rifiuti
- Promuovere il concetto di economia circolare riciclando e riutilizzando i rifiuti marini rimossi
- Aumentare la consapevolezza pubblica sullo stato di salute dell’oceano e il benessere umano

I risultati attesi sono:

- Lo sviluppo di un approccio innovativo e sostenibile che mitighi le pressioni antropiche sui reef profondi e che ne permetta il ripristino
- La produzione di dati scientifici e conoscenza sui reef profondi che sostenga il flusso di conoscenza fra gli scienziati e i decisori, affinché si migliori la gestione e la governance delle risorse naturali
- L’estensione del network Natura 2000 agli habitat bentonici profondi, raccogliendo e fornendo informazioni di supporto alla designazione di due nuovi siti profondi
- Applicare azioni di ripristino (sia attivi che passivi) che permettano l’estensione della superficie degli habitat target e forniscano nuovi substrati per le specie che li formano
- Sviluppo di un prototipo per la rimozione del rifiuto marino e che incoraggi la cooperazione con l’industria ittica che persegua la prospettiva di una economia circolare e permetta il riciclo e riuso del rifiuto rimosso
