Supervisor: Trevor Willis
Appointed on project: IsoMed. The Mediterranean isoscapes: mapping spatial distributions of stable isotopes in ecosystems across the Mediterranean Sea

Research Interests

My research uses stable isotope tracers to address questions of spatial and trophic marine ecology. I develop data- and process-based models to predict and map the spatial variability of isotopic compositions of primary producers at the base of marine foodwebs. These maps, which are termed ‘isoscapes’, provide a baseline against which isotope compositions measured in animal tissues can be compared to infer the most likely locations of tissue origin or migration, as well as shifts in trophic position and trophic interactions. I am interested in spatio-temporal dynamics in isotope ecology and the implementation of models that identify and incorporate the underlying mechanisms of isotopic variation.
